Number of IoT Connected Devices in Use Set to Grow in 2017

IoT South AustraliaLast year, the Internet of Things Alliance of Australia (IoTAA) was established to chart the country’s IoT blueprint for the future. While the Internet of Things (IoT) may seem like science fiction to some, the technology is already happening, as the number of Internet of Things-enabled devices are set to grow this year.
According to IT Brief, the number and quality of devices that connect to the IoT will rise this year and research says it won’t slow down anytime soon.
In a study by global business technology and cyber-security association, ISACA, the number of people using IoT-enabled devices will grow further in 2017, as Smart TVs gain more prominence – about 29%. The number of consumers likely to purchase smart watches and wireless fitness trackers is also likely to rise as they gain more popularity.
In addition, the research also tackled IoT-enabled devices that are augmented reality (AR) capable, particularly in countries like the U.S., U.K., India, Singapore and of course, Australia. It’s interesting to note that Aussie consumers were positive about AR, as a high number of citizens agreed that the use of this new technology will be beneficial to their lives.
The benefits of augmented reality, in addition to virtual reality, have started to be noticed by big firms such as Goldman Sachs. According to sources, AR and VR have the potential to become the next computing platform, which is projected to become an $80 billion industry by 2025.

“With the proliferation of IoT-enabled devices and the drive to provide enhanced user experiences, IoT and AR have the power to become a source of unprecedented value and opportunity, as well as significant risk.”
