Preventing Computer related eye-strain

August 9, 2015 10:24 pm

You don’t need anyone to tell you how harmful to your eyes it is to spend long hours in front of a computer screen.
If you’ve ever experienced any of these symptoms:

  • Burning sensation in the eyes
  • Headaches
  • Itchy eyes
  • Fatigue

You’ve probably suffered from eye strain. These are all side effects of excessive screen time.
You probably also already know  the best solution to this problem is to limit screen time or reduce it. But if that is not an option at work, or you can only take very short breaks, there are other things you can do to relieve strain.
Here are two apps to help fight computer-related eye strain.
EyeDefender: Windows (desktop app)
eyedefender
Such as other eye relief web apps (save for the web part), EyeDefender works under the same principle: it provides break reminders and different eye-resting activities for the user. You can either look at pictures of your choosing, perform some eye exercises, activate the app’s default screensaver, or opt for a pop up balloon reminder.
Sunglasses: Chrome (web app)
google sunglasses
This web app lets you control your browser’s brightness, separate from the rest of your PC. It tints WebPages so when you browse websites with white background, they will be easier on the eyes.
How much screen time do you spend each day, and how do you get relief after or between computer breaks?
