It is common knowledge that the National Broadband Network has been rolling out its new fibre optic cables around Australia. What’s not as well known is that once fibre has been rolled out, after an 18 month period all copper telephone cables will be disconnected.
This means that unless you have switched over to a Fibre plan, you will lose your telephone line and internet. Fortunately, Activ8me can help you switch over to fibre quickly and easily.
As of May 23rd, some parts of Brunswick, Armidale, Deloraine, Kiama, and Townsville, in Sorell, St Helens, Triabunna, Kingston, Deloraine, George Town and Willunga will have their copper lines disconnected by NBN Co. This means that households and businesses will rely solely on the new high-speed technology for phone and internet services.
If you a resident of one of these areas, it is important to have signed up with a NBN Service provider, such as Activ8me, or else will you will be without phone and internet services.
It is best to sign up for a fibre connection as soon as possible, as this avoids having to rush around at the last minute and the risk losing your telephone line or internet service. It should also be noted that the copper lines will only be removed in areas where customers are going to have access to NBN fibre, so those in regional and remote areas need not be concerned about losing their phone and internet services.
Conveniently, most telephone handsets plug directly into a port called “UNI-V” on your Network Termination Device (NTD/NBN Modem), which is provided by NBN. This port gives you access to a high quality dedicated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone service, operating over your broadband connection.
Fortunately, NBN Co installs a connection box on your external wall and a NBN Modem inside your house, for free.
When deciding upon a plan of attack for getting fibre broadband, you should ask the following:
- Do I need a standalone service or a bundle?
- Do I have an EFTPOS terminal, medical alarm device, fax machine, monitored security alarm, or any Priority Assistance Services?
While it is extremely important for residents and businesses in the area to make the switch to fibre, it is an easy process.
- Phone your preferred internet service provider such as Activ8me
- Choose a Fibre Broadband and/or Phone Service that best suits your requirements
- Organise a time for NBN Co to install the equipment
- Enjoy your new High Speed Fibre Broadband and Phone Line connections!
In order to avoid disruption to your phone and internet services , you should sign up for an Activ8me NBN Fibre Broadband or Phone Line service if you’re in an area being affected by the disconnect sooner rather than later.
